Children of the Low End – Shlohmo

Described as a “lo-fi, psychedelic mix of abstract hip-hop, dubstep-flavored wonk, bouncy synth-funk, breezy trip-hop, and what sounds like lost gems from the mid-’90s Mo’ Wax catalog”, LA-native to SF-transplant 20-year-old Henry Laufer (a.k.a. Shlohmo) is bound to be an oft-heard name in beat-circles. Evident in any of his productions is his suggestion that he’s “really influenced by the ambient/noise stuff…really influenced by sound in general”.

this linked video features a cut from his new “Camping” EP (2010) called “Naps”, a track that deftly drops massive kicks and deep, hollow tabla-sounds over dream-like layers of melody and wet synths, side-chained and ducking under the bass-weight.

The fabulous 5SIGNS have returned from hiatus to deliver a podcast of devastating quality ( though really they cant be applauded.) No, in a change of format, the Vinyl and performance of such were handled soley by episode 17′s special quest dj RICK GRANADOS ( innercurrent.com ) FONIKS brought the gear, and NSOK engineered the session at ERIC HEIGHTS Screening room in downtown Los Angeles ( ericheights.com ) ABF even found a minute to stop bye.
